o If a student fails one academic class in yearly average, the student goes to the Promotion<br />

Committee, relevant data are reviewed, and the Promotion Committee will determine<br />

retention or promotion.<br />

Attend school at least 90 percent <strong>of</strong> the academic year.<br />

o Middle school students who are not in attendance at least 90 percent <strong>of</strong> the academic year<br />

risk a loss <strong>of</strong> credit that could affect promotion to the next grade level (see section on<br />

Attendance).<br />

In order to be promoted from eighth to ninth grade, students must:<br />

Earn passing yearly averages in core academic subjects, including English, math, social studies, science,<br />

and world languages. Students may have one yearly average lower than a 70 and still be eligible for<br />

promotion to the next grade.<br />

or promotion.<br />

Middle School Promotion Committee Consideration<br />

The campus has the option to promote students by Promotion Committee in exceptional circumstances. The<br />

Promotion Committee will consider all applicable factors when making promotion and retention decisions,<br />

including but not limited to, trending in class grades, state test results, <strong>YES</strong> <strong>Prep</strong> common assessment results,<br />

LAT, MAP, literacy/fluency growth, and other appropriate, norm-referenced assessments.<br />

High School Promotion Standards<br />

Ninth-Grade Requirements<br />

a. Successful completion <strong>of</strong> core subject areas: Biology, English I, Algebra I (credit required, Geometry<br />

recommended), World Geography.<br />

b. Students are retained in the ninth grade if they:<br />

i. Fail to earn a full credit <strong>of</strong> Algebra I (note that students may recover credit for either first or<br />

second semester, but not both)<br />

ii. Fail to earn a full credit in the following subject areas prior to the beginning <strong>of</strong> the following<br />

school year:<br />

Algebra I<br />

Biology<br />

English I<br />

iii.<br />

World Geography<br />

Fail to recover all necessary credits in the immediately following summer. Students will be<br />

classified as 9 th graders until pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> passing credits are <strong>of</strong>ficially received by <strong>YES</strong> <strong>Prep</strong> by<br />

the sending agency/educational organization<br />

c. Promotional criteria involving state-administered end-<strong>of</strong>-course exams will be released later this<br />

academic year.<br />
