Vorwort
For the seventh time, the Art Club of Ibiza, a loose association of
visual artists of different origins, is publishing an annual catalogue
of painters, sculptors and photographers living on Ibiza and
Formentera.
The purpose is to highlight some of the multitude of creative minds
often thriving in the shadow on the islands, in all their diversity.
Compiled by colleagues, without a jury, the project admits
internationally renowned artists as well as committed newcomers and
keen amateurs. The selection is based essentially on the initiative of the
participants and does not claim completeness. Moreover, it turns out
that participation fluctuats from one year to the other, and thus new
talents are incorporated every time. Again and to an exceeding extent,
our edition has been supported by the cultural department of Sant
Josep de sa Talaia.
Like its predecessors, this seventh edition of Ruta del Arte, 8000 copies,
invites a public interested in the arts –experts and collectors as well as
art lovers in general– to explore Ibiza off the beaten track and meet
the artists of their choice in the place where they work. Visitors will be
welcome all year round. The only condition is to phone ahead and fix
a date for the visit. Translations of the descriptive text provide a hint to
the artist's language use. The sketch maps will help to find the studios
scattered all over the island.
Both covers display light sculptures by Roseline de Thélin who recently
developed a spectacular way to conjure 3-dimensional figures into a
room by the sole use of optical fibre and light. – Like in previous years,
a number of entire pages are dedicated to outstanding artists closely
linked to Ibiza who have been invited to contribute a piece to the
publication, thus broadening the horizon of the local initiative. This
year, these are Holger E. Dunckel, head of the cultural centre in Sant
Joan, who displays a photographic self-portrait, modified through direct
electromagnetic distortion into an image that resembles a gouache
rather than a photo. And Yanni Levkoff, a sculptor who still embodies
a way of living introduced by the hippies in the 60ies and has been
preserved on the island, he contributes a surprisingly multifaceted piece
made of a single olive trunk which took more than a year to carve. –
This time the editorial content reaches beyond the presentation of the
artists: the section of the sponsors shines with some spectacular views
of artists’ studios like ‘the cave’ of E. Louy in Salinas or ‘the halls’ of Sola’s
artist community in Sant Rafel.
Another project, which will allow you to get to know artists and their
work, is the series of group exhibitions titled Domingo del Arte (formerly
Noche del Arte in Las Dalias, San Carlos). This year, for the second time,
they do not take place in the same location but -thanks to the support
of the cultural departments of Santa Eulària, Eivissa and Sant Josepoccur
in several municipalities. Details are on the double page following
the artists' section.

of the Art Club and its projects, as well as notes on individual artists, and

Es ist jetzt das siebte Mal, dass der Art Club of Ibiza, ein loser
Zusammenschluss von visuellen Künstlern unterschiedlichster
Provenienz, seinen jährlich erscheinenden Katalog von Malern,
Bildhauern und Fotografen auf Ibiza und Formentera herausgibt.
Sein Anliegen ist es, einige der zahllosen schöpferischer Talente, die sich
auf den Inseln versammeln, aber oft im Verborgenen blühen, in all ihrer
Vielgestaltigkeit ans Licht der Öffentlichkeit zu bringen.
In dem juryfreien Projekt, zusammengestellt von Kollegen, versammeln
sich sowohl international hervorgetretene Künstler, als auch aufstrebende
Newcomer und leidenschaftliche Amateure. Die Auswahl beruht
wesentlich auf der Eigeninitiative der Teilnehmer und erhebt keinerlei
Anspruch auf Vollständigkeit. Vielmehr zeigt sich, dass die Teilnahme
von Mal zu Mal fluktuiert und jedes Jahr neue Talente zutage fördert.
Unterstützt hat uns bei der Herausgabe erneut und in gesteigerten
Maße das Kulturreferat der Gemeinde Sant Josep de sa Talaia.
Die vorliegende 7. Ausgabe der Ruta del Arte erscheint in einer Auflage
von 8.000 Exemplaren und soll Interessenten – Kenner und Sammler
ebenso wie unvorbelastete Kunstfreunde – einladen, Ibiza auf eine
andere Art zu entdecken und Künstler ihrer Wahl am Ort ihres Schaffens
kennen zu lernen. Unter der Bedingung telefonischer Voranmeldung,
ist ein Besuch bei den Teilnehmern das ganze Jahr über willkommen. Die
Übersetzungen der Texte weisen auf Sprachkenntnisse der Betreffenden
hin. Die Wegskizzen erleichtern das Auffinden der über die ganze Insel
verstreut liegenden Ateliers.
Die Titelseite wie die Rückseite zieren dieses Jahr Lichtskulpturen
von Roseline de Thélin, die eine spektakuläre Art entwickelt hat, mit
Glasfaser und Licht 3-dimensionale Figuren in den Raum zu zaubern.
– Auch dieses Mal widmet der Katalog wieder einige ganze Seiten
herausragenden Künstlern, deren Schaffen eng mit Ibiza verknüpt ist
und die eingeladen wurden, ein Werk zur Veröffentlichung beizutragen
und damit den Horizont der Initiative zu erweitern. Diesmal sind es
Holger E. Dunckel, der Leiter des Kulturzentrums in Sant Joan, der
ein fotografisches Selbstportrait ausstellt, verfremdet durch direkte
elektromagnetische Distorsion so dass es eher einem Aquarell gleicht.
Und Yanni Levkoff, ein Bildhauer der in ungebrochener Weise eine von
den Hippies in den 60er Jahren eingeführte und auf der Insel erfolgreich
ausgewilderte Lebensart verkörpert, trägt eine erstaunlich vielgestaltige,
aus einem Stück Olivenholz gefertigte Skulptur bei, an der er mehr als ein
Jahr gearbeitet hat. – Der redaktionelle Teil setzt sich diesmal über die
Präsentation der Künstler hinaus fort, denn die Sektion der Sponsoren
wird von einigen spektakulären Ansichten einzelner Künstler-Studios
durchwachsen, wie der ‚Cueva‘ von E. Louy in Salinas oder der ‚Halle‘ von
Solas Künstlergemeinschaft in Sant Rafel.
Eine weitere Möglichkeit, viele der teilnehmenden Künstler und deren
Arbeiten kennen zu lernen, bietet die Ausstellungsreihe Domingo del
Arte (vormals Noche del Arte in Las Dalias, San Carlos). Zum zweiten Mal
findet sie dieses Jahr nicht mehr nur am selben Ort statt, sondern dank
der Unterstützung des Projekts durch die Kulturreferate der Gemeinden
Santa Eulària, Eivissa und Sant Josep an wechselnden Orten. Die
