Contingency Plan was drafted that
included the presence in the plant of
unordinary resources and keeping
power at 60%, in accordance with the
Ministerial Order.
No significant anomalies occurred.
Maintenance and Outage Policies
Significant progress was made
during the year in application of RCM
to Trillo’s systems, and the aim is to
complete implementation during the
first half of 2000. This has resulted in
a very significant reduction in the
preventive maintenance workload.
This methodology has been implemented
by people from our organization
who have been trained
throughout project development. The
predictive maintenance program has
also been completed, and will allow
for on-line processing of this data.
With the work developed for the
refueling improvement plan, it has
been possible in the annual plan to
schedule the year 2000 refueling
outage in just 25 days.
Performance and Consumption
Improvements
This objective involved three
activities:
- Replacement of reheaters/moisture
separators. The study predicts a potential
improvement of some 10 MWe.
- Improved performance of the
cooling towers. The aim is to
minimize performance losses in
summer.
- Cooling water circuit control to
minimize the consumption of circulating
water pumps.

This was discussed extensively in the morning
session. The first steps were taken last year, such as
contracting the year 2000 refuelings for both plants
(3 refuelings).
As on other occasions, I would once again like to
mention the contractor firms that, with their
continuous collaboration, are accompanying us in
this venture and are also affected by the changes
imposed on us by joint plant management. We are
sure that we will be able to count on them in the
future.
Finally, in this rapidly changing world that we live
in, perhaps we should remember that the basis of our
business is production of Kwh, which is the product
we sell. Thus, guaranteeing production, and
naturally under the best safety conditions, is a goal
that should not be overlooked in these stressful times
of cost optimization.
The possibility of focusing on relevant operating
activities, the hope that licensing requirements will
increasingly focus on significant risk reduction
without wasting resources on areas that are not
relevant to safety, the concern with enhancing the
quality of the agents involved in operation, and the
need to count on people with the necessary
expertise, capability and drive – all these will allow
us to face the new challenges raised by the changes
in our environment.

GESTIÓN INTEGRADA
DE ALMARAZ Y TRILLO
Se ha hablado extensamente en la
sesión de la mañana. Se abordaron
ya el pasado año las primeras actuaciones,
como fue la contratación de
las recargas del año 2000 para ambas
plantas (3 recargas).
Como en otras ocasiones, deseo
hacer, una vez más, una mención a
las empresas contratistas que nos
acompañan en este camino que recorremos
con su continua colaboración,
que también están afectadas
por los cambios que impone la gestión
conjunta de las plantas y con
las que estamos seguros contar para
el futuro.
Por último, en este vertiginoso
mundo de transformación que estamos
viviendo quizás no esté de más
recordar que la base de nuestro negocio,
es la producción de Kwh,
que es el producto que vendemos.
Garantizar pues, la producción, por
supuesto que en las mejores condiciones
de seguridad, debe ser un
objetivo que no puede ser olvidado
en estos tiempos tan tensionados
por la optimización de costes.
La posibilidad de centrarnos en
las actividades relevantes para la explotación,
el deseo de que los requisitos
de licencia estén cada vez más
centrados en la reducción significativa
de riesgos, no desperdiciando
recursos en temas no relevantes para
la seguridad, la preocupación por
elevar la calidad de los agentes que
intervienen en la explotación y la
necesidad de contar con personas
con los conocimientos, capacidad y
empuje necesarios nos permitirán
afrontar los nuevos retos impuestos
por los cambios del entorno.
