Abstract
The history of the Neural Therapy known by the medical world begins just nine decades
ago, with the studies of the German Medical School of Thoughts of the Huneke Brothers.
Recent investigations show that their scientific basis could be found in the Russian School
of Thought, in the early years of the XIX century, throughout the Nervism School of
Thought. In the countries from west, Neural Therapy is in the process of getting a definition
as a medical specialty, this process requires knowing its historical basis, with the proper
depth and strictness. This work, presents documentary evidences of the historical basis
that leads to the knowing, strengthening and institutionalization of Neural Therapy in
Colombia, and to its recognition as a complex medical system. This work is a qualitative
investigation, based on the compilation of data from the original sources, like acts,
conferences and documentary elements, and it also obtains data from secondary sources
like non structured interviews with pioneers, disciples and current representatives of the
Colombian School of Neural Therapy. The gathered material is analyzed according to
different chronological stages, from the origin to the consolidation of the medical teaching
of Neural Therapy in Colombia.
In order to obtain the preliminar results, the work was based on 7 interviews and 6 acts.
The analysis of this data is structured in four stages: 1) The 70’s: Arrival of Neural therapy
in Southamerica, Los Robles seedbed. 2) The 80’s: development of two schools of
thought, growing in the complexity of Neural Therapy. 3) 90’s: Academic spreading and
University inclusion. 4) This century: Formalization and institutionalization of Neural
Therapy as a complex medical system.
According to the gathered information, Los Robles Farm School, was the first seedbed for
Neural Therapy in Colombia, and moreover, it played a main role in the spreading of
several medical thoughts in Colombia and in other 6 countries of Southamerica. During the
development and evolution of Neural Therapy in Colombia, two trends appear: The first
one, we will name it the Complex Systemic Trend, leaded by Dr. Julio Payán, allows
Neural Therapy reach the dimension of a complex medical system as a world view, as a
well differentiated human conception, as a conception about health and disease of its own;
