ICCAT REPORT 2010-2011 (I)includes species disposition, such as retained on boardor discarded dead or alive,− area of catch by latitude and longitude,− measure of effort (e.g., number of sets, number ofhooks, etc.), as defined in the ICCAT Field Manual fordifferent gears.− date of catch,c) observe and estimate catches and verify entries madein the logbook,d) sight and record vessels that may be fishing contraryto ICCAT conservation measures.In addition, the observer shall carry out scientific work,such as collecting Task II data, when required by theCommission, based on the instructions from the SCRS.In implementing this observer requirement, CPCs shall:a) ensure representative temporal and spatial coverage toensure that the Commission receives adequate andappropriate data and information on catch, effort, andother scientific and management aspects, taking intoaccount characteristics of the fleets and fisheries;b) ensure robust data collection protocols;c) ensure observers are properly trained and approvedbefore deployment;d) ensure, to the extent practicable, minimal disruptionto the operations of vessels fishing in the Conventionarea.Data and information collected under each CPCsobserver program shall be provided to the SCRS and theCommission, as appropriate, in accordance withrequirements and procedures to be developed by theCommission by 2009 taking into account CPCconfidentiality requirements.For the scientific aspects of the program, the SCRS shallreport on the coverage level achieved by each CPC andprovide a summary of the data collected and anyrelevant findings associated with that data. SCRS shallalso provide any recommendations to improve theeffectiveness of CPC observer programs.89.
