ABSTRACT<br />
The main goal of this paper is to comprehend the perception of the backpacker<br />
travelers about the comercial relations established in their travel experiences and the<br />
possible factors and situations that leads them to be financially exploited in these<br />
relations. To comprehend this, bibliographical researches and extensive<br />
interviews were ma<strong>de</strong> with Brazilian backpackers, and one market<br />
agent specialized in the backpacker segment in the Rio <strong>de</strong> Janeiro state. The semistructured<br />
qualitative interviews were gui<strong>de</strong>d by three analysis categories: pretravel,<br />
travel, and post-travel. The reseach explained the main agents of the<br />
exploitation and the main reasons for the occurrence of financial exploitation<br />
experiences. The research also <strong>de</strong>monstrated that experiences such as this are<br />
frequent and that, inevitably, they alter the final perception of the travelers about its<br />
own experiences in the <strong>de</strong>stination. Through the perception of the main actors<br />
involved in the comercial relations established on the <strong>de</strong>stination, the traveler and the<br />
market, methods and means were tried with the objective of minimizing experiences<br />
of financial exploitations.<br />
