REGATTAS
HONOUR
THE CHRISTMAS SEASON
More than two hundred sailors, distributed across six classes,
competed in the traditional Lusitania Christmas Regatta of Clube Naval
de Cascais in early December. As usual, as much as, or even more than,
the competitive aspect, this was an event that stood out for the lively
socializing among all, in accordance with the spirit of the season
The 2023 edition of the Lusitania Christmas
Regatta, one of the most traditional
and emblematic events on the sports
calendar of Clube Naval de Cascais, took
place from December 1st to 3rd. Alongside
the ever-present competitive aspect (as
everyone wants to win...), this championship
is always marked by an even stronger spirit
of socializing and healthy camaraderie.
Particularly when, coming from the sea,
everyone enjoys the mandatory hot chocolate
in an intergenerational atmosphere, this year
highlighted by participants ranging in age
from eight to seventy years old.
In 2023, the Lusitania Christmas Regatta,
hosted by Clube Naval de Cascais, was
sponsored by Lusitania Seguros and supported
by the Cascais Municipal Council,
Visit Cascais, Marina de Cascais, and
Vista Alegre. It also received the Silver
certificate in the Clean Regattas program
from Sailors for the Sea - Portugal.
The event had a total of 211 sailors from
Portugal, England, Ireland, and the Netherlands
representing 26 clubs, coached
by 21 trainers, and distributed across six
classes: Optimist, ILCA4, ILCA6, 420,
SB20, and Finn.
For the first four classes, the competition
began on Friday, and on Saturday and
Sunday, the other two classes joined in.
There was no shortage of competitiveness,
with the 420 class competing in nine races,
the Optimist, ILCA4, and ILCA6 classes
in eight races, the SB20 class in six races,
and the Finn class in five races.
MANY AND GREAT
In the highly competitive Optimist class,
there were a total of 65 sailors registered,
among them, Leonor (Clube Náutico de
Tavira) stood out as the overall winner.
