REGATTAS
CONSECRATION TIME
IN CASCAIS
Clube Naval de Cascais was responsible for organising the 2023
edition of the SB20 National Championship. Nineteen boats
battled for the title of one of Portugal’s most popular classes
in Cascais waters
Over three days in mid-September,
more than sixty sailors competed in
Cascais waters for the national title in one
of the most popular classes in Portugal.
Organised by Clube Naval de Cascais, the
2023 edition of the SB20 National Championship
was attended by nineteen crews
and ended up being marked by balance,
so much so that it wasn’t until the final
race that it was possible to know who the
winner would be.
Even so, right from the opening regatta,
the eventual champions and vice-champions
made their ambitions clear, finishing in
the positions they would occupy at the
end of the competition. This was evident
throughout practically the entire championship,
through remarkable regularity
and an excellent set of results: discarding
the worst classifications of each, the worst
result achieved by the champions would be
a third place, and by the vice-champions
a sixth place.
At the end of the three-day event and after
six races, the Atlantic Sailing Club crew
deservedly took the sceptre, with Tiago
Morais, Miguel Oliveira and Francisco
Oliveira, aboard Another Affair, becoming
the new SB20 National Champions. Second
place went to the Hotel Valverde crew,
formed by Pedro Mendes Leal, António
Pereira, Ricardo Schedel and Maria Tavares,
with the lowest place on the podium going
to Vasco Serpa, Diogo Machado Pinto
and Pedro Costa Alemão, on board Solyd
Properties/SailCascais.
As for the other Clube Naval de Cascais
teams, fourth place went to Vasco Passanha,
Afonso Leite and Nuno Bajanca in Patris;
Henrique Brites, António Barros, Francisca
Martins and Francisco Neto secured fifth
place in Bravo; followed by Nuno Cabral,
