Lusitania Christmas Regatta 2023<br />

She dominated all the days of racing and<br />

had her name engraved on the Eng. Barros<br />

Pereira Trophy, and she also emerged<br />

as the top female sailor. Manuel Sencio<br />

(Associação Naval de Lisboa) secured the<br />

second position, while André Caires (Centro<br />

de Treino de Mar) claimed the third<br />

spot on the podium. Among the younger<br />

sailors, Guilherme Costa (Clube Naval<br />

de Cascais) took the victory in the U12<br />

category and finished 11th overall, António<br />

Moreira (Clube de Vela Atlântico) came in<br />

second in the U12 category (29th overall),<br />

followed by Artur Bento (Clube de Vela<br />

do Barreiro, 32nd overall) in third. Other<br />

sailors from CNCascais had commendable<br />

performances as well, with Bernardo Neto<br />

finishing in 4th place, Diogo Reis in 12th,<br />

Guilherme Ryder in 13th, Vasco Empis in<br />

34th, Martim Soares Lopes in 35th place,<br />

Duarte Champalimaud in 37th, José Leiria<br />

Pinto in 40th, Vasco Neto in42nd, Graça<br />

Empis in 47th, Felix de Groot in 57th, and<br />

Maria Menezes e Castro in 67th.<br />

Moving on to the ILCA4 class, Jannis Tomáz<br />

(Clube de Vela de Lagos) secured the<br />

first position overall and also among the<br />

U16 category. The remaining spots on the<br />

podium were occupied by representatives<br />

from CNC: Kuzey Karis and Carlijn Kam<br />

(first among female sailors), in that order.<br />

Also performing well on their home turf<br />

were Francisco Taborda (7th), Manuel Matos<br />

de Pinho (8th), Mafalda Barros Teixeira<br />

(9th), Joana Madeira (11th), João Ferreira<br />

(23rd), and Maria Figueiredo (30th).<br />

In the ILCA6 class, Clube Naval de Cascais<br />

demonstrated absolute dominance, with<br />

João Pontes emerging as the winner after<br />

winning all the races. He was followed by<br />

Max de Groot and Boudie Van Dishoeck.<br />

Sofia Trovão (Clube de Vela do Barreiro,<br />

16th overall) was the top female sailor. Also<br />

representing CNC, Francisco Silva Pereira<br />

finished 6th, Elcis Kam finished 12th, and<br />

Sebastião Castanheira finished 21st.<br />

In the 420 class, there was suspense until<br />

the very end, with the victory being decided<br />

in the last race. Francisco Uva Sancho<br />

and José Vozone from Clube Naval de<br />

Cascais emerged victorious, surpassing<br />

all competition and also claiming the top<br />

spot among the U19 category. They were<br />

followed closely by Teresa Quartim and<br />

Rita Borges (Associação Naval de Lisboa),<br />

Clube Naval de CASCAIS 55
