« wps: modernized
and new to the logistics mall»
▶ Ein Lagersteuerungssystem in Zeiten der Digitalisierung: das neue wps
A Practical Example
A customer orders goods through a web shop. The web
shop calls up wps web services to create the delivery and
the delivery items. wps automatically reserves the goods
and creates supply transports from the automated high
rack to the picking zone. Those supply transports are sent
to the PLC control of the high rack via an adapter so that
the pallets required are automatically brought to the pickup
point. At the pick-up point, a sensor scans the pallet
and calls up another wps micro-service. This service creates
a forklift ride from the pick-up point of the high rack
to the picking zone and informs a forklift driver about this
new tour. As soon as the forklift driver confirms this tour
(another micro-service), the order is approved for picking.
The order picker is then led through the picking zone on
optimized routes and brings the picked goods to the dispatching
station. Here, the goods are packed and labelled.
After the goods have been handed over to the carrier,
another micro-service is called up – as with all previous
steps – to let the client know that the order is on its way
to the end customer. Besides, the end customer receives
an email including the parcel number of the freight forwarder.
“This example shows how wps ensures networking
from the end customer of the client through to the
freight forwarder and how it controls all logistics processes,
when used in the logistics sector as a central hub.
The use of wps in the Logistics Locations
of the WM GROUP
Within LB GmbH, the new wps is used at WM GROUP.
The locations in Bocholt, Westerkappeln-Velpe, Duisburg
and Hamminkeln will be equipped with the new standard
step by step.
Last year, the warehouse management system wps
was already revised and presented in a new design.
Web-based and with a modern look and feel, a lot
was done with regards to user-friendliness in the
last quarter of 2015.
The next step was to align wps with digitalization and
Industry 4.0 and of course, it is now also available for our
customers in the logistics mall. “With the modernization
we have created unique selling points that allow us to
support our customers on their way towards digitalization,”
project manager Björn Renzel explains. One important
aspect is that all parties involved – customers, employees,
machines, robots etc. – are networked along the valueadded
chain and that they can access all information re-
quired for a specific process at any time. “This is achieved
through the web service in the backend and a suitable
programming that ensures that the data can be accessed
from and displayed on all kinds of end devices,” says Björn
Renzel. “Besides, the backend feature is encapsulated in
little micro-services that can also be called up e.g. by the
customer via web services.” With this system you are fast,
flexible and close to the process. The customer has the
possibility to use a system that is available in 24 hours. All
processes can be integrated with existing ERP systems and
freight forwarders and it does not even have to be expensive:
Lanfer Systemhaus offers wps for rent – every month,
users can be added or removed flexibly. In addition, we offer
you a professional hotline that is always available with
help and advice. We are at your service when you need us.
