Jubiläum | Zermatt Magazin 89
The popular fondue and raclette chalet, a festival favourite, will once again open its doors to hungry visitors . . .
Zermatt Unplugged – a subtle difference
In its tenth year Zermatt Unplugged
is extending the festival
site by adding a place of exceptional
sensual experiences: the
Festival Village.
Fire bowls, but not just any. A place
of meetings, inside and out, with a
great sense for the look and feel of
the destination. Pleasures to discover
for all the senses: visual,
acoustic, olfactory, gustatory, haptic.
For its anniversary festival, Zermatt
Unplugged is setting up a new
Festival Village on the ice rink / tennis
court site and the Obere Matten
leisure area to complement the
tented stage and Foyer tent. In collaboration
with festival partner
Proviande and businesswoman
Katja Weber, who devised the Zurich
Christmas Village, Street Food
Festival and Frau Gerolds Garten
restaurant, Zermatt Unplugged is
expanding the very essence of its
festival mindset: Quality over quantity,
innovative concepts and sensible
consumption instead of mass
produced goods, well designed aesthetics
in harmony with the landscape
and a destination instead of a
modular festival kit. Various festival
partners are involved in setting up
the different huts and areas of the
village – including Proviande, the
trade organisation of the Swiss
meat industry and Village partner.
Sustainably produced meat of regional
origin, beautifully presented
under the label “Swiss Meat – a
subtle difference”, plays a leading
role. The concept of “a subtle difference”
applies here: What makes
the product different from usual?
Try it and see!
The new Village stage is at the
heart of this area, with new talent
performing three times a day. This
stage, which replaces the New Talent
stage at the museum and in
the Foyer tent, is also suitable
for spontaneous showcases. With
comfortable places to sit, wooden
roofs and warming fireplaces, it is
a cosy place to linger. The market
place acts as a meeting and starting
point as well as an information
platform and a place to take a
short breather. For Katja Weber,
who has previously worked with
numerous exhibitors at other festivals,
the Village represents an exciting,
new challenge: “What does
taste mean in Zermatt? What is
there in the village, or on the
mountain? Who do we attract, who
wants to join in? Then: What does
a festival visitor take home as a
fond memory? From there we radiate
out from Zermatt across the
whole world.”
