the Statutory Accident Insurance for Public
Employees in North Rhine-Westphalia
(Unfallkasse NRW) in three organisations
with insurance coverage from the UK NRW.
The “Fahren wie ein Profi“ (Driving like a
professional driver) training which is aimed
at frequent drivers, now has become a well
established prevention activity. In 2011, it
has been adapted to the particular needs
of even more companies. While always
keeping its programmes up to date, DVR
initiated in 2011 a large, comprehensive
restructuring of its education and training
concepts.
The “bester beifahrer” (best co-driver)
campaign that provides information on
driver assistance systems has been further
developed.
Within the “Reifenqualität” (tyre quality)
campaign, DVR presented a film, performed
tyre checks at car washes and carried out
comprehensive media and public relations
activities for the sake of awareness raising
regarding product quality of tyres
Road Users and Road Infrastructure
For the “Kind und Verkehr“ (“Children and
Traffic”) programme 35 new moderators
were trained to make sure to always dispose
of sufficient staff so that all events can be
carried out successfully. Special emphasis
was placed in 2011 on the topic of
“Sicherung von Kindern im Pkw“ (“Securing
child passengers in cars “). DVR and DGUV
have initiated together the working group
on “Schulische Verkehrssicherheitsarbeit”
(Traffic Safety for schoolchildren) in an effort
to play a more active role in this field as well.
In October 2011, the new website www.
schulbusprojekte.de on school bus projects
was activated, which provides information
on measures and activities taken for the safe
transport of children to schools.
The DVR activities for elderly road users
remain focussed on the “Sicher mobil”
(Safe and mobile) programme within
which in 2011, a total of over 5,000 events
were organized. The “Senioren-Training“
(“Training for Elderly Drivers”) manual
which had been developed jointly with the
organizations implementing safety training,
has also been completed in 2011.
The DVR Committee for adult Road Users
submitted to the Federal Highway Research
Institute (BASt) a comprehensive discussion
paper on the introduction of a multi-phase
training system. The aim is to further improve
the safety of young road users. It builds on
the success of the “Accompanied driving at
17” scheme which has become applicable
general law as of 1st January 2011. With a
view to develop further the various systems
of supporting young novice drivers, extensive
analyses of existing feedback systems were
carried out and tested in practice. Many
young road users have participated in
competitions at work and at schools that were
announced by DVR and various partners.
The practical safety driving programmes
have been developed further. This year, nine
39
basic seminars, nine training seminars and 14
advanced training seminars were organized,
all of them based on the standardized
basic and advanced training system. To
gain approach to a broader audience for
the safety and training programmes, DVR
presents itself on exhibitions and trade
fairs, and carries out high-profile projects,
such as the co-operation with the German
“AutoBild” motoring magazine during
the “Deutschlands bester Autofahrer”
(Germany’s best driver) competition that has
existed for more than 20 years already. The
DVR seatbelt campaign “Hat’s geklickt?“
(Has it clicked?) that was launched in 2002
and addresses professional drivers, also
achieved excellent results in 2011.
Traffic engineering is an important field
for improving road safety. DVR was
involved here among others in areas such
as promoting the work of local accident
prevention committees whose members
undergo systematic training. In 2011, the
“Fahrradakademie” (Bicycle Academy)
of the German Institute of Urban Affairs,
on behalf of DVR, continued the series of
seminars entitled “Sicherer Radverkehr in
Klein- und Mittelstädten“ on “Safe cycling in
small and medium-sized cities” with seminars
held in six cities. In presentations and through
its press activities, DVR advocates systematic
speed monitoring, and encourages the
inspection of road construction and
road reconstruction measures through
appropriate auditing measures.
