ERLEBNIS URNER
HAUTE ROUTE
The adventure of the Urner Haute Route
Magnificent, wild mountain isolation on a ski tour lasting several days – that’s what
the Urner Haute Route between Realp and Engelberg has to offer. The director
of Tourism in the Andermatt holiday region, Flurin Riedi, has grown to love the long
climbs, the intoxicating descents and the cosy mountain huts.
Flurin Riedi, Sie sind seit 2014 Tourismusdirektor
der Ferienregion Andermatt und rund ums Jahr
ein begeisterter Ausdauersportler. Zusammen
meisten beeindruckt?
FLURIN RIEDI: Skitouren von Hütte zu Hütte sind im
Trend und mancherorts trifft man ganze «Völkerwanderungen»
an.
Flurin Riedi, you have been the Director of
Tourism in the Andermatt holiday region since
2014 and are also an endurance sports
enthusiast. You experienced the Urner Haute
Route at first hand with the director of the
Engelberg Tourism. What left the biggest
impression?
FLURIN RIEDI: Ski tours from hut to hut are all the
rage and sometimes it can feel like you are part
of a mass migration. In winter, the area between
the Ursern Valley and Engelberg in the canton
of Obwalden is very isolated by comparison.
Journeying through this unbelievable high mountain
landscape, the stillness in the wilderness –
with no e-mail or phone calls – is unforgettable.
It is a unique experience to find your own touring
rhythm, relying on your own concentration and
strength.
There are five stages and four overnight stays
between the start and the finish. Which part did
you like best?
The Urner Haute Route as a whole is my absolute
favourite of all the ski tours that I am familiar with.
I found the second stage particularly striking,
travelling from the Albert Heim Hut to the Winter-
