Cusanus-Gymnasium
School is hard
Moan, moan, moan, are we in a bit of trouble? Students set out to investigate matters
and offer solutions. Will the “Wind of Change“ hit Cusanus Gymnasium?
School is hard ... natural disasters and climate change
Dear Trouble-Shooter,
I am writing to express my concern at the condition of our school building. I am concerned about the tiles
which are falling off the façade, the windows which are not tight and the heating which is not working.
In my view, these are not optimal conditions. If the tiles fall off the outside façade, this could result in an
accident, even if there is fencing all around. Thus, necessary safety is not given. My proposal would be to
renovate the façade in order to avoid potential accidents. This will also help improve the school image so
that more students could be attracted to it.
Subsequently, I would like to mention that the windows in the classrooms are not tight so there is never a
comfortable working temperature. Since the heating system is not working, students must sit in their classes
with their jackets on. This does not contribute to a satisfactory learning environment and the students
are less concentrated.
My proposal is that the renovation of your school should start as soon as possible to solve the following
problems:
- The façade to avoid accidents
- The windows to create an optimal working climate
- The heating system
I request a meeting to discuss these problems as soon as possible.
Best regards

School is even harder ... creepy noise pollution
Dear Trouble-Shooter,
I am writing to express my concern at the working atmosphere in our school courtyards. In particular, I
would like to express my worries about the noises which pervade the entire interior of the northern part
of the building.
I am not sure what causes those sounds, but maybe something could be done to avoid this unnecessary
annoyance. A good atmosphere is essential for students to deliver convincing results in their work.
In addition, studies have proven that incessant noise affects inner organs. As conceivable consequences
hypertension, gastrological problems as well as muscle tension are to be considered.
A possibility to put an end to the noise pollution could be to insulate the area with a “noise-cancellinginsulation
machine”.
Another way to tackle the issue would be to turn the source off but, as I said, I am not sure where exactly
these sounds come from.
I am sure we will find an acceptable solution for this problem.
Best regards
