The interaction of software, mechanics and
electronics has been the flagship of HEITEC
AG for four decades. With its technologically
high-quality and economical solutions, the
company helps more than 2,000 customers
worldwide increase their productivity
and optimise their products. The company’s
roughly 1,200 employees at numerous
locations in Germany and abroad have an
in-depth technical knowledge of sectors
including the automotive industry, packaging
technology, energy, medicine, food and beverages,
shipbuilding, aerospace and logistics. In
Germany alone, the company has nine locations,
including its headquarters in Erlangen. These
sites both operate independently and cooperate
across projects. In Chemnitz, HEITEC employs
more than 80 people, many of
whom come from other countries
to join the company.
We wanted to know more
and asked site manager

Let’s talk about the keyword integration:
what is HEITEC AG’s strategy for
the long-term retention of international
specialists?
Of course, it’s a big advantage for the
company if Chemnitz or the region is the
centre of international employees’ lives.
Due to the lack of family ties, skilled workers
from other countries are naturally
more inclined to change jobs again or to
turn their backs on Germany. To address
this, we uphold a corporate culture that
appeals equally to all employees. This
includes team sporting events, such as
the company run and group hiking tours,
as well as barbecue afternoons and visits
to the local wine festival. As a sponsor of
the Niners, Chemnitz’s basketball team,
we also follow their games together.
They clearly set an example in terms of
integration that shows quite vividly how a
team of international players is capable
of top performances. We always like to
take this spirit back to the company.
What about German language skills?
Are they essential for gaining a
foothold here at HEITEC’s location in
Chemnitz?
Even though we are a company that
operates internationally, it is an advantage
to either have good German
language skills already or acquire them
over time. Our work in the region and
on a nationwide level involves a lot of
customer care. Customer contact and
meetings are part of our daily business.
Sometimes our German employees find
it difficult to keep an important appointment.
Now imagine that you don’t speak
the customers’ language and are asked
to clarify complex issues. Of course,
you can usually talk to our customers
in English. But then misunderstandings
can’t be ruled out. Incidentally, there are
also challenges over which we have no
influence – for example, US laws that
apply worldwide. The background to this
is the sanctions against certain states
adopted by Congress in Washington. For
example, it’s much more difficult to hire
skilled personnel from Iran in Germany
because of the embargo.
