“WE MAKE THE WORLD
A LITTLE SAFER.”
“We started out with great ambitions and visions,
which we realised, occasionally overturned or simply
rethought, as is only natural” says Matthias Domes,
one of the founders of domeba GmbH, looking back
on the beginnings of the “classic garage start-up”.
Their ambition to set up an agency specialising in
web applications has grown into a company that can
rightly claim to save lives every day: domeba GmbH
is now one of the leading providers of compliance
management software and develops digital solutions
for occupational health and safety, quality assurance
and sustainability.
Modular software in 30 languages helps
companies from almost all sectors to
implement internal or legally prescribed
rules and objectives. domeba GmbH
marked two milestones in 2023: the
company celebrated its 25th anniversary,
and its employee headcount simultaneously
entered the three-digit range.
Test Engineer Robert Montell is one of
the new employees. The Finnish floorball
player is a guest player with the Floor
Fighters Chemnitz this season. Matthias
Domes: “Before the start of the new
season, we as a sponsor were informed
that the new guest player was looking
for a job at an IT company. He had just
completed his bachelor’s degree in programming.”
The successful application
process began immediately, and Robert
Montell has been a permanent member
of the “domebianers” team since mid-
October. Being international has been
on domeba’s agenda for some time, says
Matthias Domes, who prefers a “healthy
pace” when it comes to internationalisation.
“Cultural worlds collide [during
international encounters], which can be
enriching and challenging at the same
time. We need a workforce that has not
just been persuaded to accept this process,
but firmly believes in it. And that

Why did you decide to work in Germany,
and what expectations did you have?
First and foremost, it was for family
reasons, as my spouse works here. I also
wanted to take the opportunity to advance
my career and expand my CV. A
good work-life balance, career development
opportunities and a friendly, cooperative
team were some of the things
I expected to find. I also hoped to gain
intercultural experiences and improve
my language skills.
Did you encounter any particular challenges
or positive experiences?
My integration into the company has
been very positive. All the employees
here are very nice and co-operative,
which has made my experience of
working here very pleasant. In terms
of the local community, I’ve had a few
difficulties adjusting socially, but nothing
serious. I’m happy with my life here.
What advice would you give to other
international professionals?
Be open to new experiences. Accept cultural
differences and respect diversity.
Be patient and focus on your professional
development.
