Duc comes from Vietnam, Joey from
Iraq – and both have found a professional
home at SITEC. What else connects the
mechanical engineering graduate and the
former interpreter?
His full name is Ngyuen Viet Duc. “Duc”
means Germany in Vietnamese – but
the name is no coincidence. “My father
has many friends in Germany, and his
doctoral supervisor also comes from
here”, explains the younger Dr Nguyen.
When he was working at Hanoi University
in Vietnam, joining a German-
Vietnamese exchange programme
was an obvious choice. He obtained
his doctorate at Dresden University of
Technology in 2014, partly thanks to a
project with Chemitz-based firm SITEC.
He has been working there since 2014,
joining its Research & Development
department in 2018. He and two other
colleagues work with partners to develop
and optimise pioneering technologies,
such as laser material processing.
The fact that SITEC is able to keep
up with and actively shape the major
topics of our time is also down to Duc’s
department: fuel cells, battery recycling
and automation are just a few of
the many factors that play a major role
in the automotive industry and beyond.

life – he has worked as a hairdresser
and in the catering trade, and he was
an interpreter in the once booming
textile industry in Turkey. He now uses
his talent for communication when he
helps colleagues with limited language
skills to understand instructions and
operate the machines correctly. “It’s
important to learn German, because
you won’t get very far without it”, explains
the 44-year-old Turkman. As he
also speaks Turkish and Arabic, he can
be a real help to colleagues just arriving
from abroad. His openness and
warmth are appreciated by managers
and colleagues alike.

At SITEC, employees with international
experience are welcome in all of its
departments, from machine operation
to development. And the 250 or so
colleagues get to meet up regularly at
events like the Easter barbecue, the
summer party and the departmental
Christmas parties. “Everyone simply
knows everyone here, from the technicians
to the managing director”, says
Duc. And Joey adds “The atmosphere
here is just super nice.”
“Make or buy“
SITEC’s unique nature also gave Joey
his job. The company not only manufactures
large machines, but can also
make the products itself if customers
so wish. The “make or buy” concept
means that customers decide for
themselves whether they want to have
products mass-produced by SITEC, or
buy the machine and do it themselves.

Joey and Duc are both family men.
Joey is proud of his older daughter,
who is studying acting and has already
performed for Dieter Bohlen on
“Deutschland sucht den Superstar”.
“She got four yeses!”, he says proudly.
He is also musical and used to dance a
