working remotely, we learnt to chat to
each other from time to time.
That leads perfectly into my next question:
what qualities do you think are
needed for remote working to work?
You need a bit of discipline and sufficient
intrinsic motivation; by that I
mean that you do the work because it
really interests you. And it’s definitely
an advantage if you’re more of an
introvert and don’t need to socialise
all day to feel satisfied. That’s not so
important for me. I work from home. Of
course, I could also go to a co-working
space if I wanted to socialise.
But can you ever switch off properly if
you are working from home?
I’ve actually never had any problems with
that. I close my laptop, and then I don’t
think about it any more – no more than
when I started working in the Dresden
office. I can separate them both quite
well – staying focused at work and then
it’s time to call it a day. I also like the fact
that I can organise my day more flexibly.
You can spread the housework out a bit
throughout the day, and you don’t always
have to do everything after work, so you
can make better use of the times when
you’re really focused.
Would you say that the future viability
of companies also depends on whether
they offer their employees remote
working?
I’m actually pretty sure of that. I think
many employees are interested in
whether they can work remotely – at
least a few days a week. Even before
the pandemic, there were always a
few colleagues working from home
because chemmedia AG has always
been very considerate of families with
children and employees who had a
particularly long journey to the office.
But now, after the pandemic, it’s an
exception for someone to actually be
working in the office every day. I’m
convinced that this is a more attractive
way of working.
Will your colleagues still see you at the
Christmas party in Chemnitz?
Definitely! I’ve already been to Chemnitz
twice this year for company
events, and I’m looking forward to
seeing everyone again.
