Implementation of Transportation policy:

Bus priority measures.
• Bondi Road.
• Old South Head Road.

A proposal for bus priority measures along Bondi Road (clearway on the southern side from 2 -
8pm Saturdays, Sundays & Public Holidays during summer months only) was developed and
approved by the Waverley Traffic Committee. However, Council rejected this proposal at its
December 2005 meeting.
• Old South Head Road
Proposals for bus priority measures along Old South Head Road are currently being developed
• Oxford Street
Additional bus priority improvements will be considered as part of the Bondi Junction Traffic and
Transport Study that is currently underway.
Bike Plan implemented.

• Bondi Junction to Bondi Basin and Beach.
• Bondi Junction connection to Stage 1 route.
Design plans have been prepared and approved by the Waverley Traffic Committee for Stage 2
(Bondi Junction to Bondi Beach) of the Waverley Bike Plan except for the Matins Avenue link which
is currently out for community consultation.
Tenders have been called for construction and works are due to commence in August 2006.
Modal shift of trips by car to other forms of transport. 78
Bus usage data for the 360, 380 & 381 bus routes has been collected
and this combined with the traffic volume data collected provides
baseline data for 2005.
Priority pedestrian improvement and access works. 78
A plan was developed and implemented for improved pedestrian
access to the Bondi Junction Interchange involving improved
signposting and line marking both inside and around the interchange
together with the installation of a pedestrian barrier fence on the eastern
side of Grosvenor Street.
Comprehensive Bondi Junction LEP and DCP:

• Integration of best practice social and environmental strategies
into planning controls.
• Appropriate balance of commercial retail, tourism
accommodation and residential uses in new development in
planning controls.
The Bondi Junction LEP No 6 and draft Town Square DCP were prepared in August 2005 and
considered by Council in September 2005. The plans were placed on public exhibition in January
2006.
A consultant planner (Connell Wagner) was commissioned in October 2005 to prepare the
Comprehensive Bondi Junction LEP and DCP. The project brief includes objectives, which require
the integration of social and environmental strategies into planning controls.
