Waverley Council How Council is Organised Public Works & Services Our Public Works & Services Department provides a wide range of essential public services to a diverse mix of customers. These services include: Managing our Capital Works. Maintenance and construction works on our roads, footpaths and other Council assets. Management and maintenance of Council vehicles and equipment. Waste collection and public places cleansing. Emergency management. Bondi Junction Town Centre management. Annual Report 2005/2006 17
18 Reviewing Our 2005/2009 Management Plan Did We Do What We Said We Would Do? The Local Government Act requires us to report to Council each quarter on our performance in meeting the targets set in our Management Plan. This section of our Annual Report aims to briefly outline what we achieved in 2005/2006 measured against the targets we set in our 2005/2009 Management Plan (see pages 32 - 89). It also details our progress with the significant issues, identified in each chapter in the Management Plan, for the 2005/2006 period. In addition, it provide a summary of progress in relation to our Multicultural Policy, our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Access and Equity Policy, our Disability Action Plan and in providing services to young people and older people (see pages 27 - 31). A more detailed review of our access and equity activities in 2005/2006 compared to the targets set in our 2005/2006 Operational Plan is available from page 125. Our Management Plan is based around eight chapters - Bondi Junction, The Bondi Area, Neighbourhoods, Our Environment, Our Community, Moving around Waverley, Planning for Waverley and Our Organisation. Each of these chapters is made up of a number of programs and each program has one or more activities that have specific targets. In addition, each chapter included a list of significant issues that were to be addressed in 2005/2006. The information that follows is about how these significant issues were progressed. Bondi Junction Our vision for Bondi Junction is to bring it alive as Australia’s best integrated, livable urban neighbourhood, offering a high quality of life and commerce. In moving to achieve this vision in 2005/2006 we: • Drafted the Town Square Development Control Plan for incorporation into the new Bondi Junction Comprehensive Local Environmental Plan (LEP). • Made substantial progress on the Bondi Junction LEP. Stage One of work including initial consultation is complete. A second round of consultation is scheduled for August 2006 with finalisation of the draft LEP anticipated in late 2006. • Provided cultural events throughout the year in accordance with the Bondi Junction marketing plan with a focus on bringing Bondi Junction alive. • Maintained and reported on service level agreements covering the provision of council services. • Completed the proposed community satisfaction survey on cleaning, open space and public space amenity in December 2005. • Undertook kerb, guttering footpath replacement and road re-sheeting in Oxford Street West. We held a street party to celebrate the completion of the work and to encourage visitor to Oxford Street West. • Continued a review of traffic management and traffic flows following the completion of Westfield. A final report on the review is due in July 2007. The Bondi Area During 2005/2006 the Place Management approach at Bondi continued to evolve. These developments included: Fully documenting the place management model for Bondi Beach Area. Further refining Service Level Agreements (SLA). Further enhancing SLA reports particularly in the parking, customer request and audit areas. Annual Report 2005/2006
