Waverley Council State of the Environment Activities 2005/2006 Council Sustainability Planned Activities Page No Percent of current relevant policies reviewed annually to ensure 153 compliance with ESD principles. A range of best practice environmental policies have been reviewed and developed this year. These include the review of Council’s corporate Environmental Policy, development of an Asbestos Policy for the Waverley LGA and complaints handling procedure, development of Council’s Water Savings Actions Plan, drafting of an Integrated Total Water Management Policy, and the roll out of the Waverley Council Environmental Management System for which 60 environmental management plans have been developed for high environmental risk Council activities since July 2005. In addition, the Bondi Junction Commercial Centre Planning Review included a strong sustainability component. Progressive preparation and review of built form plans and policies 154, 166 to ensure best practice in ESD This year, an Asbestos Policy was developed for the Waverley LGA, as well as an Integrated Total Water Management Policy which, once adopted, will apply to all new development in Waverley. In addition, the current Bondi Junction Commercial Centre Planning Review includes a strong sustainability component. Percent of Council Sustainability Indicators exhibiting positive 160 improvement each year. In the 2004/2005 State of the Environment Report, 14 of 26 sustainability indicators, or 54%, exhibited positive improvement. Percent of SoE recommendations implemented each year. 160 Almost all of the recommendations made in Councils 2001/2004 Comprehensive State of the Environment Report have been implemented, including the extension of an environmental levy beyond 2006, roll out of a new waste system, consultation with Darug Tribal Aboriginal Corporation and the La Perouse Aboriginal Land Council in the preparation of Council’s Plans of Management and other relevant Council projects, and serious exploration of the use of planning controls to effect the loss of residential care in Waverley. Prepare Council’s annual State of the Environment Report. 160 The annual State of the Environment Report was completed in September 2005 Assist Waverley schools to comply with the Department of 163 Education and Training Sustainable Schools program Council’s Sustainable Schools Challenge, which involved environmental audits and performances at participating schools in Waverley. Number of Environmental Management Plans developed for Council 164 activities each year. Since June 2005, 60 environmental management plans have been developed for high environmental risk Council activities, including its Resource Recovery, Maintenance and Construction, and Public Place Cleansing activities.
