Equality is defined as a fair distribution of resources, rights and wealth between all peoples, now
and for all time. Sustainable development considers a balance of this equality both between
peoples of the same generation and between those of different generations. For the people of the
same generation, mutual respect and a sense of sharing are the most important criteria, whereas
for people of different generations, it is essential that intact global assets are passed on to the
future generation.
This model can be applied by determining the development objectives, and then, defining the
necessary compromises that can be found between the four dimensions.
