inTRODUCTiOn<br />

“Spirituality” and “Spiritual Paths,” have so many definitions<br />

and goals that it would be impossible to write them all down.<br />

For example, in Buddhism the “goal” of the “path” might be<br />

Nirvana; however, for most people, Nirvana means some kind<br />

of beyond or heaven, although its actual definition is extinction.<br />

In Hinduism (Yoga), the goal of its spirituality might<br />

mean liberation into some other existence beyond this one.<br />

In Christianity, “spirituality” could mean the realization of<br />

essential qualities like compassion, love, forgiveness, etc., so<br />

that we can enter the kingdom of heaven. Obviously the list<br />

could go on and on and on.<br />

“Spiritual Paths” are the techniques, the approaches the ways<br />

or means, if you will, by which “you” as a participant reach<br />

these high, lofty “spiritual states.”<br />

“Spiritual” paths not only include techniques or approaches,<br />

but also underlying precepts that manifest in the<br />

form of both implicit as well as explicit rules. For example,<br />

from celibacy, poverty, and charity to mantras, meditation,<br />

and service to God or being open, loving, and forgiving are<br />

just a few of the possibilities.<br />

However, what is spirituality or a spiritual path other than a<br />

veiled remedy? Nisargadatta Maharaj put it this way:<br />

“I do not accept paths . . . All paths lead to unreality,<br />

paths are creations within the scope of knowledge,<br />

therefore, paths and movements cannot transport you<br />

into reality. Because their function is to enmesh you<br />
