Samadhi<br />

“When there is consciousness only of the object of<br />

meditation and not of itself (the mind) is Samadhi.”<br />

(Taimini, The Science of Yoga, p. 281)<br />

Let us begin by seeding what will become Section III by<br />

beginning with a question: “What is a priori, or better said,<br />

what must be there first in order to concentrate, meditate,<br />

or “go into Samadhi”?”<br />

The answer is an “awarer.” In other words, the I am is, a<br />

priori in order to do any form of concentration or “spiritual<br />

practice,” and it is the I am, which contains the structure<br />

(condensation of THE SUBSTANCE) called an “awarer.” An<br />

“awarer” naturally carries out the process of awaring and produces<br />

what we call awareness. In other words, the “awarer,”<br />

is a structure made of consciousness, which awares things,<br />

and has a location in space-time.<br />

Ask this question: “Prior to the emergence of an awarer,<br />

. . . are you?” With this “understanding,” concentration and<br />

meditation are a function of an “awarer,” which is made of<br />

consciousness. To illustrate, prior to building muscles, you<br />

must have a body that exercises. Prior to meditation is a<br />

body and (I am) and the exercise of concentration. Hence,<br />

concentration and meditation followed by religious dogma<br />

can serve to strengthen the resolve of its substructure or<br />

understructure called the “awarer,” making it (the “awarer”)<br />

believe it is. This exercising of a substructure (the “awarer”)<br />

can, without understanding, serve to strengthen the substructure<br />

called the “awarer’s” ability to concentrate—BUT also<br />

runs the risk of deluding the I am into believing it is and<br />

that it is “getting better.” At this point it is imperative to insist<br />

on a key issue to avoid miss-understandings. THERE IS NO<br />

SUGGESTION OR IMPLICATION THAT CONCENTRA-<br />

TION MEDITATION IS BAD.
