Unfinished lace sampler, using bobbin lace
tape to create compartments for a variety of
needle worked patterns done in linen thread.
One section contains a knotted net.

Samplers were originally used as reference to
various designs and techniques. By the eighteenth
century they began to be regarded as small works
of art and hung as such.
