This extraordinary belt represents the epitome of
Uzbek technical achievement in the textile arts in
the late 19 th century. This example has a lovely, soft
palette of ivory, red, light blue, peach and gold-green.
It features two distinct design units, each inexactly
repeated, in order, once: (1) a series of motifs
commencing and ending with a doubled step device
culminating in a diamond-shaped finial, and (2)
paired triangles (in one case squares), bracketing a
vaguely floral motif of stems, diamonds and pendant
leaves. The border appears to be a simple stepped design.
