As early as the first millennium B.C., feathers have
been used in Andean textile art for ceremonial
garments. The colors achieved are bright, and the
patterns usually simple and bold. The wearers of
these garments were obviously in the top echelons of
the society. The fact that the pieces were usually
buried with their owners is the reason that they still
exist in excellent condition.
