There is another fragment of this band in the Textile
Museum, and it would not be surprising if more turned
up, assuming the original band was meant to go around
the interior of a yurt. The use of ikat designs by pile
weavers in Central Asia was fairly common in the
19 th century and probably before. Determining an age
for this piece is difficult as there are few comparables.
