The basic diamonds formed by leaf patterns and
rhomboids are organized to create alternating circles
over the entire field. These decorative designs are known
to have Mamluk origins. The stitchery of the elements
is done in different directions so that the reflected light
appears as two different tones of red. The dye used is
from a type of lichen found on rocks along the seashore.
