Fire Direction Center Functions<br />

● Prevent fratricide.<br />

● Determine residuals and graphic firing table<br />

settings.<br />

● Respond to all communications directed to the<br />

battery.<br />

● Compute technical data for firing element.<br />

● Perform tactical fire direction, as required.<br />

● Execute fire plans.<br />

● Receive fire order standards from the battalion,<br />

when required.<br />

● Establish fire order/command standards for the<br />

battery.<br />

● Respond to fire orders from battalion.<br />

● Process requests for fire from supported units.<br />

● Submit requests for reinforcing fires to battalion,<br />

when required.<br />

● Designate ammunition lots if not designated by<br />

higher headquarters.<br />

● Issue fire commands to howitzer sections.<br />

● Assign priority targets/FPF to firing battery.<br />

● Submit reports to battalion.<br />

● Maintain an FDC journal.<br />

● Maintain a fire control map to keep track of<br />

friendly and threat positions, tactical control<br />

measures, FSCMs, and zone of fire/target area<br />

in the respective AOR.<br />

● Be prepared to assume control as the alternate<br />

battalion FDC, if designated.
