Saola, Ban Lak (20), Bolikhamxai Province, January 1996. This
species was discovered in 1992, in Vietnam, and has since only
otherwise been found in Lao PDR. None has survived long in
captivity and further attempts to keep them are now actively

Although this species remains common and widespread in some
countries, hunting pressure in Lao PDR is so heavy that populations
are much reduced and direct sightings are rare.
