Auction o f Souls is an American film production based on the book Ravished Armenia by H. G. Gates, and relates the experiences o f
an American girl, Aurora Mardiganian, who escaped from the Turks and found refuge in the United states. She stars in the film, which
is designed to bring home to the American and British public the sufferings o f the Armenians under Turkish oppression. The
scenes are supported throughout by quotation from the official report o f the Bryce Commission on Armenia. Lord Bryce, who, with
Lord Gladstone, attented a private exhibition o f the film at the Q ueen's Hall recently, said short o f the facts; M iss Mardiganian is
scheduled to visit this country to speak on her experiences.
Propaganda is all, facts are nothing. As early as 1919, the
Armenians had released an American film full o f lechery
and voyeurism. The principal actress was an "Armenian
girl, Aurora Mardiganian, who, "(oh wonder!)" escaped
from Turkish soldiers and found refuge in the United
States, and exhibited her experiences in front o f the cam
era". The feature is supported throughout by quotations
132
from the official report o f the Bryce Cemmission on
Armenia. Lord Bryce and Lord Gladstone attented a pri
vate exhibition o f the film at the Queen's Hall, probably
in order to prevent anyone in the audience from shuoting
"Ireland" or "Boer massacre". Today, the Kurds are mis
used in the same way at the expense o f the Turks and,
again the source is Armenian know-how.
