They followed just an appeal for rescue: With the most<br />
modem equipment o f those days the French fleet had<br />
been alarmed that the Armenians o f Musa Dagh had<br />
failed to conquer the road between Anatolia and Syria<br />
which would have cut the Ottoman Empire into two<br />
pieces. As soon as it was clear that the Armenian revolt<br />
on Musa Dagi had been a failure, the French rescue fleet,<br />
consisting o f five battleships and one transport ship,<br />

appeared in the Bay o f Samandag and evacuated the<br />
Armenian mercenaries. Around 4,000 yuong men were<br />
transfered to Suez and Cypms from where, after contin<br />
ued military training, they once more fought against<br />
Turkey.<br />
The French fleet consisted o f the warship Guichen,<br />
Desaix, Jeanne D'Ark, D 'Estres, Foudre and the trans<br />
porter Charner. If anyone can be described as "helpless"<br />
