Appendix B – Glossary Contents Glossary Index Troubleshooting R S Request Code 270 Sentinel Hardware Keys Developer’s Guide Refers to the code generated (as a .req file) by the customers/distributors as a request to update their hardware keys. It contains the hardware key details (such as, the serial number) and the license information. Your customers can generate it using the option you allow—Secure Update utility, Secure Update Wizard (for Windows only), or some custom utility that calls the Secure Update API functions. Your distributors can generate it using the Secure Update utility or some custom utility (to update the distributor key count). Using the request code, an update code, or a license addition code is generated under the Key Activator tab of the Toolkit. Response Data The scrambled result derived when the Sentinel Key processes the query data using the AES algorithm. The Sentinel Key returns the response data to the application. The application then uses the response to determine whether the user is authorized to run the application. Seat A seat represents a user name and MAC address combination. Secret Key A secret key generally refers to the key in a secret key cryptography system, in which both sides use the same key. It may also refer to the private key in a public key cryptography system, because the private key must also be kept "secret." The AES feature uses a 128-bit long secret key to encrypt/decrypt data.
Secure Communication Tunnel Contents Glossary Index Troubleshooting An end-to-end secured session between the client and the Sentinel Key for providing secure private communication. The communication packets are encrypted using the AES algorithm, for which the session key is generated using ECC-based key exchange (ECKAS-DH1). Secure Update Utility The Secure Update utility is used for updating the Sentinel Keys and distributor keys remotely. It provides an alternative to the Secure Update Wizard. Sentinel Key The hardware key meant to be used by your customer in order to run the protected application. It can be attached to a stand-alone or network system depending the key type. A Sentinel Key can be programmed by you (the developer) or your distributor with a license group. Sentinel System Driver The Sentinel System Driver is the device driver for communicating with the hardware keys (Sentinel Key, developer key, and distributor keys). For Linux, a user-level daemon is provided. For Macintosh, a kernel extension module (KEXT ) is provided. Sentinel Keys License Monitor The Sentinel Keys License Monitor shows the details of the Sentinel Keys and clients accessing them via a Web browser. It is a convenient way to view and track license activity and analyze application usage. Sentinel Protection Installer Sentinel Protection Installer can install the Sentinel System Driver and Sentinel Keys Server on a system.
