Built <strong>by</strong> a great ecclesiastic and adorned <strong>with</strong> a chapel,<br />

which, much as it has been transformed, is still to-day<br />

a dignified and stately memorial of its founder, it is<br />

natural that <strong>Hampton</strong> <strong>Court</strong> should have an interest<br />

for churchmen. In this regard, even more than in<br />

others,it presents a series ofdetached episodes. During<br />

the <strong>three</strong> centuries and a half the chapel goes on <strong>with</strong><br />

its quiet homely household services, varied from time<br />

to time as the Churchvaried its rules or royal influence<br />
