renommee, represented as a very beautiful winged female figure
with a trumpet, is now standing on a magnificent car, drawn by
four elephants, and captive at her feet appears atropos seated.
Attendant on her are a crowd of heroes on foot and on horseback,
one of whom with an imperial crownis intended for Julius
Cæsar. Others are labelled torqvat, cathon, martias, po'pee
LE GRANT, FABIRVS MAXIMVS.

Finally,there is portrayed in this piece, which hangs opposite
the last on the north wall, the ultimate triumph of Time over
Renown or Fame.

The car of renommeis again shown here, butit is now turnedin
the oppositedirection, and both the elephants that drawit, and
the surroundingthrong on horseback and on foot,appear to be in
flight before some overmasteringinfluence. Above this part of
the picture are shown the signs of the Zodiac — Gemini and
Cancer — and the flight of the fleeting hours, represented as
femalefigures.

as an old man witha flowing beard, crutches, and wings.
