D. Requirements<br />
• Personnel are facilitated <strong>to</strong> <strong>be</strong>come teachers in <strong>tvmbo</strong>, e.g. a coordina<strong>to</strong>r is appointed,<br />
teachers do in-service training.<br />
• Teachers develop a curriculum where subjects work <strong>to</strong>gether.<br />
• School management stimulates team work.<br />
• Enough authentic material is provided.<br />
• Parents are informed and involved in <strong>tvmbo</strong>.<br />
1.6 Partner schools<br />
Five main partner schools were involved in the main part of the research project – the<br />
interviews and observations. These were Anna van Rijn College in Nieuwegein, CSG<br />
Calvijn College Groenehart in Barendrecht, Farel College in Ridderkerk, Lorentz Lyceum<br />
in Arnhem and RSG Slingerbos-Levant in Harderwijk. These schools were chosen<br />
<strong>be</strong>cause are mem<strong>be</strong>rs of the <strong>tvmbo</strong> network, were very willing <strong>to</strong> participate and<br />
are schools which have already started bilingual vmbo. They were also considered, anecdotally,<br />
<strong>to</strong> <strong>be</strong> possible examples of good practice.<br />
1.6.1 Other schools involved<br />
All the schools which are in the <strong>tvmbo</strong> network and which have already started <strong>tvmbo</strong><br />
were invited <strong>to</strong> participate in the online surveys for teachers and students in April<br />
2011. Ten schools responded <strong>to</strong> the survey: sixty-six students and nineteen teachers.<br />
Chapter 2 goes in<strong>to</strong> what literature around the world and in the Netherlands has said<br />
about three areas: (1) working in bilingual education with students at a similar level <strong>to</strong><br />
vmbo, (2) taalgericht vakonderwijs and (3) general CLIL methdology.<br />
