3.3.3 Interviewees and observations<br />

We interviewed a <strong>to</strong>tal of six coordina<strong>to</strong>rs or managers, eleven English teachers, fourteen<br />

subject teachers and twenty-two students. Sometimes the TTO coordina<strong>to</strong>r was<br />

also a subject or English teacher.<br />

3.4 Observations<br />

Informal observations were also carried out at each of the partner schools, as can <strong>be</strong><br />

seen in Table 3.1: Interviews at five partner schools, above. The researcher asked TTO<br />

coordina<strong>to</strong>rs <strong>to</strong> indicate who they considered <strong>to</strong> <strong>be</strong> their ‘<strong>be</strong>st’ <strong>tvmbo</strong> teachers and, if<br />

there was time in the programme, the researcher observed these so-called <strong>be</strong>st teachers.<br />

The objectives of the observations were:<br />

• <strong>to</strong> gather examples of activities which appear <strong>to</strong> work with <strong>tvmbo</strong> students as input<br />

for a later questionnaire and<br />
