The scientific advisory group<br />

The group commented on all key aspects of<br />

project design and execution, advising on<br />

problems or conflicts of a technical or scientific<br />

nature.<br />

The main work of the SAG included assistance<br />

with:<br />

• adherence to protocol and commissioning<br />

brief; and approval of protocol changes<br />

• compliance with the CONSORT<br />

(Consolidated Standards <strong>for</strong> Reporting<br />

Trials) guidelines<br />

• assistance with decisions relating to recruitment<br />

and sample size<br />

• setting early termination criteria<br />

• overseeing quality control procedures and<br />

monitoring processes<br />

• reviewing project documents and instruments<br />

(practice survey, interview schedules, data<br />

collection procedures, quality assurance<br />

procedures, interim analysis/report, final<br />

analysis/report)<br />

• monitoring progress against agreed milestones<br />

• assistance with publication strategy.<br />
