Seaborne exports rose by 1.9 Mt in 2009 to 10.1 Mt<br />

in <strong>2010</strong>. The largest customers for steam coal were<br />

Germany with about 6 Mt and the UK with about 0.6 Mt.<br />

A large part of this volume was transported by rail.<br />

Production<br />

In <strong>2010</strong>, the Czech Republic was able to increase<br />

Coke production in the Czech Republic amounted to<br />

2.6 Mt. Lignite production came to 43.8 Mt, dropping<br />

slightly by 1.4 Mt.<br />

into 6.3 Mt of coking coal and 5.4 Mt of steam coal<br />

(estimates).<br />

Infrastructure<br />

Coal and coke exports to the Czech Republic were<br />

transported overland by railway and also by barge on<br />

the Danube (via the Port of Bratislava).<br />

Exports/Imports<br />

<br />

Mt, of which 6.3 Mt was coal and 0.8 Mt coke. Austria<br />

with 2.0 Mt, Slovakia with 1.6 Mt and Poland with 2.0<br />

Mt were the major customers. A large share of exports<br />

consists of coking coal. The Czech Republic imported<br />

smaller quantities of coal and coke – around 1.9 Mt –<br />

mainly from Poland and Russia.<br />
