3.3.2 The throw-out A throw-out keeps the game fl owing and encourages the development of a move. A throw is accurate over short and long distances. The goalkeeper can throw the ball: • directly to a team-mate, • into the path of a player who is running. The goalkeeper can decide whether to launch a quick or gradual attack. Technical preparation The advantage of this type of throw is that it allows the outfi eld player to run with the ball or pass without having to control the ball fi rst. Run-up • this throw can be carried out with or without a run-up.
