3.3.2. The Effect <strong>of</strong> Existence <strong>of</strong> a Family Room on <strong>the</strong> Use <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> Interior Design<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Living Room<br />
This section is related to <strong>the</strong> statistical analysis <strong>and</strong> discussion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> results that are<br />
related to <strong>the</strong> effects <strong>of</strong> existence <strong>of</strong> a family <strong>room</strong> on <strong>the</strong> <strong>use</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> interior<br />
design <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>living</strong> <strong>room</strong>. Also, <strong>the</strong> qualitative analyses <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> results that are<br />
related to <strong>the</strong> interior design differences in family <strong>room</strong>s, <strong>and</strong> <strong>living</strong> <strong>room</strong>s <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
<strong>use</strong> <strong>of</strong> kitchen as a <strong>living</strong> area are discussed.<br />
Independent samples t- tests were conducted to compare <strong>the</strong> <strong>use</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> interior<br />
design <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>living</strong> <strong>room</strong> in ho<strong>use</strong>s with <strong>and</strong> without family <strong>room</strong>s. The existence <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>private</strong> activities that are performed in <strong>the</strong> <strong>living</strong> <strong>room</strong>s were significantly different<br />
for ho<strong>use</strong>s with <strong>and</strong> without family <strong>room</strong>s (t= 4.392, df= 30, two tailed p= .000). This<br />
result indicates that in <strong>the</strong> ho<strong>use</strong>s without family <strong>room</strong>s <strong>private</strong> activities performed<br />
in <strong>the</strong> <strong>living</strong> <strong>room</strong> are more than those in <strong>the</strong> ho<strong>use</strong>s with family <strong>room</strong>s (see Figure<br />
3.13. for <strong>the</strong> relationship between existence <strong>of</strong> family <strong>room</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>private</strong> <strong>living</strong> <strong>room</strong><br />
activities).<br />
