MARRIAGE AND DIVORCE 2003 LOUISIANA VITAL STATISTICS REPORT MARRIAGE Counts and Rates The number of marriages by parish in 2003 is presented in table 7.1. In 2003, 37,288 marriages were celebrated in Louisiana, an increase from 36,545 in 2002 (Table 7.2). Louisiana’s 2003 marriage rate was 8.3 per 1,000 population. The rate for 2002 was 8.2 (Table 7.2). National and state marriage rates were approximately equal in the early 1990s, but the state rate rose to a level slightly higher than the national rate as the decade progressed.
