Medical Risk Factors for Complications <strong>of</strong> Pregnancy<br />

The birth attendant records medical risk factors on the birth certificate by checking any <strong>of</strong> 16 listed risk factors, or by specifying<br />

“other” or “none”. Multiple risk factors can be recorded on a birth certificate.<br />

Medical risk factors reported on the birth certificate differed somewhat by age, with very young mothers and older mothers<br />

reporting the highest rates <strong>of</strong> medical risks.<br />
