Age-adjusted death rates for the five leading causes <strong>of</strong> death in the major race/gender groups make direct comparisons among<br />

the groups possible. For the three leading causes <strong>of</strong> death, as well as nephritis, influenza and pneumonia, and septicemia, ageadjusted<br />

death rates for <strong>2003</strong> were higher in black males than in all other race/gender groups.<br />
