Mortality by Gender<br />

In <strong>2003</strong>, there were 21,084 male (49.9%) and 21,213 female (50.1%) deaths in <strong>Louisiana</strong> (Table 5.4). The crude death rate for<br />

males (966.1 per 100,000 male population) was higher than for females (916.7 per 100,000 female population) (Figure 5.8,<br />

Table 5.4).<br />
