§483.20(k)(3)(ii) Be provided by qualified persons in accordance with each<br />

resident’s written plan <strong>of</strong> care.<br />

Interpretive Guidelines §483.20(k)(3)(ii):<br />

If you find problems with quality <strong>of</strong> care, quality <strong>of</strong> life, or resident rights, are these<br />

problems attributable to the qualifications <strong>of</strong> the facility staff, or lack <strong>of</strong>, inadequate or<br />

incorrect implementation <strong>of</strong> the care plan?<br />

Probes §483.20(k)(3)(ii):<br />

Can direct care-giving staff describe the care, services, <strong>and</strong> expected outcomes<br />

<strong>of</strong> the care they provide; have a general knowledge <strong>of</strong> the care <strong>and</strong> services<br />

being provided by other therapists; have an underst<strong>and</strong>ing <strong>of</strong> the expected<br />

outcomes <strong>of</strong> this care, <strong>and</strong> underst<strong>and</strong> the relationship <strong>of</strong> these expected<br />

outcomes to the care they provide?<br />

§483.20(l) Discharge Summary<br />

When the facility anticipates discharge a resident must have a discharge summary<br />

that includes:<br />

(1) A recapitulation <strong>of</strong> the resident’s stay;<br />

(2) A final summary <strong>of</strong> the resident’s status to include items in paragraph (b)(2) <strong>of</strong><br />

this section, at the time <strong>of</strong> the discharge that is available for release to authorized<br />

persons <strong>and</strong> agencies, with the consent <strong>of</strong> the resident or legal representative; <strong>and</strong><br />

Intent §483.20(l):<br />

To ensure appropriate discharge planning <strong>and</strong> communication <strong>of</strong> necessary information to<br />

the continuing care provider.<br />

Interpretive Guidelines §483.20(l):<br />

―Anticipates‖ means that the discharge was not an emergency discharge (e.g.,<br />

hospitalization for an acute condition) or due to the resident‘s death.
