Mr. Godard has been active in State<br />
and National organizations interested in<br />
the several lines <strong>of</strong> activities connected<br />
with the <strong>Connecticut</strong> State Library.<br />
Among these may be mentioned the National<br />
Association <strong>of</strong> State Libraries and<br />
the American Association <strong>of</strong> Law Libra-<br />
rians, both <strong>of</strong> which he has been president,<br />
and the American Library Association and<br />
American Historical Association, in both<br />
<strong>of</strong> which he is serving on important com-<br />
mittees. Among the more important<br />
committees with which he is connected<br />
should be mentioned the Joint Committee<br />
<strong>of</strong> Law and State Librarians upon a Na-<br />
tional Legislative Reference Service <strong>of</strong><br />
which he has been chairman since 1909,<br />
the Public Affairs Information Service,<br />
the Law Library Journal and the Index<br />
to legal Periodicals, and the committee on<br />
Public Documents and Public Archives.<br />

Mr. Godard is an active member <strong>of</strong> the<br />
<strong>Connecticut</strong> Historical Society, vice-president<br />
from <strong>Connecticut</strong> <strong>of</strong> the New<br />
England Historic-Genealogical Society,<br />
Boston, fellow <strong>of</strong> the American Library<br />
Institute ; historian <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Connecticut</strong><br />
Society <strong>of</strong> Founders and Patriots <strong>of</strong><br />
America ; member <strong>of</strong> the Wesleyan Uni-<br />
versity Alumni Council ; editor <strong>of</strong> the<br />
<strong>Connecticut</strong> State Records ; trustee <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Wilbraham Academy. He is also in<br />
charge <strong>of</strong> <strong>Connecticut</strong> State Military<br />
Census, and Custodian <strong>of</strong> the Connecti-<br />
cut State Library and Supreme Court<br />
Building. As a member <strong>of</strong> the Center<br />
Congregational Church, the University<br />
Club, the City Club, the Twentieth Cen-<br />
tury Club, and the several Masonic bodies<br />
he is vitally interested in their work.<br />
On June 23, 1897, Mr. Godard married<br />
Kate Estelle Dewey, daughter <strong>of</strong> Watson<br />
and Ellen Bebe Dewey. They have three<br />
children : George Dewey, born August<br />
8, 1899, a senior in the Hartford public<br />
High School ; Paul Beach, born February<br />
17, 1901, a junior in Wilbraham Academy<br />
; and Mary Katharine, born October<br />
3, 1903, who is a senior in the Northwest<br />
Grammar School.<br />

One <strong>of</strong> the self-made men now residing<br />
in Wethersfield, Mr. Hubbard has ad-<br />
vanced from small beginnings to a posi-<br />
tion <strong>of</strong> strength and importance through<br />
his own energy, industrious application<br />
and business facilities. He was born<br />
May 7, 1886, in Southington, Connec-<br />
ticut, a son <strong>of</strong> Henry and Harriett<br />
(Spencer) Hubbard, grandson <strong>of</strong> Hiram<br />
Hubbard. Henry Hubbard was a farmer,<br />
employed in various sections <strong>of</strong> the State,<br />
was a soldier <strong>of</strong> the Civil War, a member<br />
<strong>of</strong> Company I, Seventh <strong>Connecticut</strong> Vol-
