states that William Bradford and Alice<br />

Carpenter were sweethearts in youth, but<br />

After Bradford's wife, Dorothy,<br />

was drowned in Provincetown Harbor, he<br />

wrote to the Widow Southworth, in Eng-<br />

land, and she came over in 1623, in the<br />

ship "Ann." Constant, eldest child <strong>of</strong><br />

Edward and Alice Southworth, born in<br />

1615, in Leyden, was brought up in the<br />

family <strong>of</strong> his stepfather, Governor Brad-<br />

ford, at Plymouth, was admitted a freeman<br />

in 1637, and was in service against<br />
