Catherine, widow <strong>of</strong> Anthony Thompson,<br />

<strong>of</strong> New Haven.<br />

They were the parents <strong>of</strong> Samuel<br />

Camp, who was born September 15, 1655,<br />

in Milford, where he purchased land,<br />

April 14, 1686. He was one <strong>of</strong> the first<br />

settlers <strong>of</strong> Durham, <strong>Connecticut</strong>, where<br />

he located in 1708. He married, Novem-<br />

ber 13, 1672, Hannah, daughter <strong>of</strong><br />

Thomas Betts, <strong>of</strong> Milford, born November<br />

12, 1652, in Guilford. Thomas Betts,<br />

born in 1618, in England, was in Guilford,<br />

in 1650, in Milford, 1658, in Norwalk,<br />

1664, and died in the latter town in 1688.<br />

Hannah, wife <strong>of</strong> Samuel Camp, was liv-<br />

ing in 1688.<br />

The eldest child <strong>of</strong> Samuel and Hannah<br />

(Betts) Camp was Samuel Camp, born<br />

May 10, 1675, m Milford, died March 13,<br />

1744, and was buried in the old graveyard<br />

at Milford. He married, May 28,<br />

1695, Rebecca Canfield, daughter <strong>of</strong><br />

Thomas and Rebecca (Atkinson) Canfield,<br />

<strong>of</strong> Milford and Durham, granddaughter<br />

<strong>of</strong> Thomas and Phebe (Crane)<br />

Canfield. She probably lived but a short<br />

time, as another record shows that he<br />

married, January 16, 1699, Mary Bald-<br />

win, baptized November 26, 1684, in Milford,<br />

died October 29, after 1730, daugh-<br />

ter <strong>of</strong> Timothy (2) and Mary Baldwin,<br />

granddaughter <strong>of</strong> Timothy (1) and Mary<br />

Baldwin.<br />

Their second son was Captain Jonathan<br />

Camp, born December 17, 1702, and was<br />

buried in St. Paul's Churchyard, at Norwalk.<br />

His wife's baptismal name was<br />

Ann.<br />

They were the parents <strong>of</strong> Jonathan<br />

Camp, born May 17, 1735, died November<br />

9, 1807. He married, in 1759, Mary Bur-<br />

well, born April 17, 1734, died January<br />

25, 1812.<br />

Their eldest son was Jonathan Camp,<br />

born February 20, 1768. He married,<br />

May 19, 1792, Hannah Bouton, born May<br />

16, 1765, daughter <strong>of</strong> Esaias and Phebe<br />

(Byxbee) Bouton. Esaias Bouton, born<br />

November 28, 1730, died May 27, 1821,<br />

was a son <strong>of</strong> Zachin Bouton. His wife,<br />

Phebe (Byxbee) Bouton, born 1734,<br />

died March 15, 1810, and was buried at<br />

Belden's Point, Norwalk.<br />

Their eldest son, Jonathan Camp, was<br />

born September 15, 1801, died April 14,<br />

1880, and was buried in Union Cemetery,<br />

Norwalk. He married, January 11, 1826,<br />

Mary Lannon Newkirk, born February<br />

15, 1808, died December 4, 1896, and was<br />

buried beside her husband. She was a<br />

daughter <strong>of</strong> Garret Harson Newkirk, born<br />

1788, died February 1, 1831, granddaughter<br />

<strong>of</strong> John Newkirk, who died January<br />

14, 1818.<br />

Jonathan Camp, second son <strong>of</strong><br />

Jonathan and Mary L. (Newkirk) Camp,<br />

was born January 22, 1838, in Norwalk,<br />

died April 16, 1874, and was buried in<br />

Union Cemetery <strong>of</strong> that town. He married,<br />

April 5, 1865, Frances Jane Wood,<br />

born January 1, 1842, daughter <strong>of</strong> Uriah<br />

Wood, born October 25, 1822, married,<br />

November 24, 1839, Eliza Jane Gorham,<br />

born January 25, 1821, died November<br />

16, 1855, and was interred beside her husband<br />

in Union Cemetery. Frances J.<br />

Wood was descended from Daniel Wood,<br />

born 1752, in Danbury, <strong>Connecticut</strong>, died<br />

September 21, 1829, married Wealthee<br />

Munrow, born 1760, died July 10, 1818.<br />

Their son, Noah Wood, born February<br />

24, 1780, died August 22, 1846, married<br />

Deborah Piatt, born December 10, 1778,<br />

died April 27, 1855, daughter <strong>of</strong> Joseph<br />

and Lydia (Wilson) Piatt. They were<br />

the parents <strong>of</strong> Joseph Piatt Wood, born<br />

July 18, 1797, died March 5, 1883, married,<br />

March 7, 1821, Clarissa Pickett, born<br />

March 28, 1799, died August 17, 1873,<br />

and was buried in Union Cemetery, Norwalk.<br />

She was a granddaughter <strong>of</strong> John<br />

and Mercy (Piatt) Pickett, and daughter
